Literature Text

It was a rather sunny day this day in the Acorn Kingdom. And Sally was spending it inside . And in a sewing room. She sighed as she was sewing and just as she just finished sewing a dress together and was fitting it on a mannequin she was shocked by Fiona, her partner, who jumped onto her.

"Fiona, what did you do that for?!"

"Because I couldn't find you."

Sally groaned and continued fitting the dress she just made onto the mannequin. This intrigued Fiona's interest.

"What's with the dress?"

"Huh? Oh, my dad is making me go to this dance and I didn't wanna buy a dress so I made one."

"And he didn't ask me to join?"

"My dad doesn't like you."

"I know, but still, you're my girl, I should be there with you."

"Yea, but Fiona it's a formal dance."

"And?"

"It requires fancy dresses and suits. And classy music, polite behavior-"

Fiona then interrupted her by groaning.

"Fiona." She said sternly.

"Sorry, but I could so do the whole fancy getup."

"Are you sure? Remember my last birthday when you-"

"Don't speak of it. Please."

"..Right."

A moment of silence passed until Sally spoke again.

"You do know it means you need to wear a dress right?"

This really made Fiona want to curse, upon how she was not one for wearing dresses.

"Can't I wear a suit instead?" Fiona begged.

"I don't know.. I mean it's a formal event."

"Please Sal. Dresses are really unflattering to me."

"I'll check with my dad."

"Thank you!"

Some time passed after that and Fiona was goofing around and bouncing a ball off the wall until Sally came in the room and caught the ball, ending Fiona's fun.

"Aw, why'd you stop my fun?"

"Because we need to go over some things."

"Such as?"

"What you'll need to wear, and our spotlight dance."

"Spotlight dance?"

"Yes, even though my dad didn't like the idea of us dancing together I managed to manipulate him to go through with it."

"....I see."

"..Fi, is something the matter?"

"Well Sal, I uh.. I..." Fiona stammered as she got up and wasn't facing Sally.

"Yes Fiona?" She was wondering.

"I uh... I can't really dance, it's like I have two left feet. Two left and really large feet. Why else do you think I wear these large boots?"

"Aw, Fiona, don't you worry, I'll teach you how."

"Are you sure that's a good idea?"

"What's the worst that could happen?"

"...Probably your feet being crushed by mine."

Sally sure did hope that was a joke. But soon she realized that it wasn't. Over the course of a week she was teaching Fiona to dance but had no luck in the lessons. Some very basic dances Fiona was able to do, but the dance Sally wanted to do for their spotlight dance was difficult. The dance, the tango. It had to be one of the most difficult things Fiona ever had to try doing. She really just wanted to give up on this all together.

They were in the middle of practice and Fiona just merely exclaimed it.

"That's it, I'm done with this."

"What?"

"I'm sorry Sally, but I can't do this,my big clunky feet just get in the way and you'd be better off just going without me. I'm sorry."

"What, Fiona!" She exclaimed trying to get her to come back.

But Sally failed and Fiona just left the room.

"Oh.. Fiona.."

It wasn't long until the dance came up. Sally was already at the ballroom, meeting guests, while Fiona was in her room, just sulking and staring out her window. Much to her surprise, Sally's father was in the doorway.

"..Fiona."

"...."

"Fiona, I might not particularly like you, but you make my daughter happy. And I like seeing my daughter happy. So I have to know, why did you walk out on her for this dance?"

"Because I can't tango."

"What, that's it?"

"You wouldn't be saying that if you had two big left feet."

"That doesn't mean you won't be able to do it."

"We've been trying since last week, and no progress."

"That's probably because you've been focusing on not messing up and not just going with it."

"....I guess."

"There's still time Fiona, whatever you want to do choose wisely."

He then left the room, leaving Fiona by herself and looking in the mirror. And she took a deep breath. Meanwhile in the ballroom Sally didn't seem to be having much fun. A couple of guys did offer to dance with her but she declined. Though they were persistent, but she kept declining. And soon came the time for what would be her and Fiona's spotlight dance, and with her not there, she was quite depressed.

And then just like that, a light came into focus and people were moving out of the way for who was coming through. That person being Fiona, and in a dark purple suit. She took Sally's hand and made their way to the middle of the room with the main spotlight on them.

"What're you doing?" Sally whispered.

"You can't tango with just one person." She replied.

Fiona took out a white rose and bit down on it as the music started and their dance began. Surprisingly Fiona was doing very well, probably because she wanted Sally to be happy and didn't at all focus on her feet doing the right thing. And at the end of their dance Fiona threw the rose into the crowd and gave a kiss to Sally. She gave a giggle and they went over to the table with all the snacks lied out.

"Fiona, that was amazing."

"Yeah, I know, though it's thanks to your dad for coming to talk to me or else this would be a pretty lonely night for the both of us."

They both chuckled and Fiona was about to lean on the wall, and forgot that there wasn't a wall there and fell against the table, causing the food to fly and land on the guys who kept asking Sally for a dance. Both Sally and Fiona couldn't help but laugh at the sight and left. They walked out to the garden and sat on a slab of rock, looking up at the moon.

"I really do love you Sally."

"I love you too Fiona."

And before they left to go to sleep for the night the two nuzzled and ended the moment with a kiss.
I finally get to my entry for that Saliona contest. Man I was completely stuck but I finally got to it. I really like it, I hope others do too.
